I've never driven a non-turbo Z, but I used to drive an '89 240SX. It is not the fastest thing, but it handles VERY well. I personally think it can outhandle the Z. It has a tighter turning radius than most cars on the road. You'll do U-turns where others have to do a 3-point turn. It has good low-end torque, so moving off the line from a stop/redlight and getting it up to the speedlimit isn't a big problem. Just don't expect much after that.
